It’s Saturday and losers like me are at home

I was thinking of going out tonight but I started rearranging the books on my shelves to accomodate my latest buys. They are all jostling for room with the random knick knacks and borrowed books. Here are some of my latest additions. I say “some” because I can’t remember if I left any out… which is quite a likelihood, seeing how many books I buy and how quickly I forget about them as soon as I shelf them away.

From top:
Ursula Le Guin, A Wizard of Earthsea
Robert Louis Stevenson, The Black Arrow
Xeus, Dark City
Yang-May Ooi, Mind Game
Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl
Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl & The Arctic Incident
Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl & The Eternity Code
Roald Dahl, The Great Automatic Grammartizator & Other Stories
Roald Dahl, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More
Roald Dahl, Skin and Other Stories (This shouldn’t be in this pile. It got mixed up with my other Dahls.)
Cornelia Funke, The Thief Lord
Guy Gavriel Kay, Tigana
GP Taylor, Shadowmancer
Edward Gorey, Amphigorey (fifteen books by Edward Gorey)

I also bought three other Dahls along with Artemis Fowl – Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, Charlie & The Great Glass Elevator, and Matilda. I’ve not picked them up from my editor after leaving them with her to scan the covers for this week’s PostMag.

Guy Gavriel Kay’s Tigana is one of my jackpot finds at Book Castle, a secondhand bookshop that just opened at Jalan Keretapi (somewhere between Jade Pot and Bungalow). His books are not easy to find here. I have The Fionavar Tapestry trilogy and I love it to pieces… enough to get Joyce to hunt down a new copy of Book 1 when my original went missing.

My other wonderful find is Amphigorey by Edward Gorey. Think Tim Burton, who drew much inspiration from Gorey’s work.

  1. Love your blog! It looks so dang cool! You’re a great photographer too. Love your photos. What cam do you use?

I’m a fan of Earthsea – you’re going to have a great time with Ursula Le Guin! It’s gonna come out as an animated movie pretty soon!

  2. citylover: barely put a dent into them yet!

Wanderer: Thanks. I use a Canon PowerShot G6, which isn’t really mine. I’ve heard much about Earthsea and finally got a chance to check it out. :-) Haven’t started though…
