The topic went from archaeology to ancient civilisations to Atlantis and aliens.

Overall a very interesting evening that succeeded in making me wonder how to levitate things with music alone*, but a blog entry for another day.

Pyramids, ancient civilisations and weight-lifting with music

There’s no reason for me to pretend I’m not impressed by this. I was thrilled when the counter of his page passed the RM50k mark. But Kenny Sia exceeded his target. People kept giving. They raised and extra RM2000 right there at tHe Spring.

Needless to say, the man of the hour was mugged over and over for photos. Here, we’re both pointing at something that’s about to become history.

Despite all natural fears, Kenny actually looked good without hair. 

But I think the whole reason behind the “Give Hope, Go Bald” campaign hit home when we were introduced to 6-year old Michael from Kapit.

His father will be going bald along with a bunch of other people this Sunday. Perhaps that bunch of other people will include me.

My collection is RM850 at the time of writing (watch the meter on the sidebar for updates), which is pretty amazing considering I only started rallying for donations on Monday. A huge bunch of thanks go out to my colleagues, friends and new friends who took up the cause and passed the word on.

There’s 2 more days left to contribute. Besides me, the following bloggers are also pledging to shave their heads:

Kenny goes bald

The Kuching Food Bloggers Gathering @ Village Fast Food was nice and had a few new faces (“new” as in I haven’t already met them everywhere else), but I was too tired to mingle after we sat down and the food started coming out. I’ve been constantly tired the last few weeks.

I was too tired to figure out how my friend’s camera worked, hence I didn’t get photos and this is not an entry into the Eat OK blog post contest. Photo above? Stole it. Thanks Annna.

I must say that the Eat Ok logo makes a great icon in real life, as demonstrated by everyone in the photo.

I’m pleased that Gab, who designed the logo, was also there. We know each other from my church days and were already planning to meet up to swap Edward Gorey books.

I helped the organisers by writing up quiz questions on the fly. I knew Caroline at VFF will be making a speech and was gonna get some things from there, but I didn’t anticipate that Francis will be introducing everyone who attended. It did make a couple of other good questions though!

I think this is the first proper food review event organised for bloggers. There were 5 tables for us and we had feedback forms to fill. I’m quite pleased with the feedback form idea because it shows that the people from VFF are serious in getting a general feel of what people think of their food.

Despite not feeling very good, I enjoyed the event and the company. I’m only sorry I didn’t have enough energy to go make new friends that night, but I am glad to see the usual suspects and a few other people I usually meet elsewhere.

Kuching Food Bloggers Gathering @ Village Fast Food

Oh well, a girl can hope.

With some gentle encouragement from Advertlets, I went over for a look. The site is not too bad, employing the pop-up book presentation that popped a collage of artwork, photos and animation at you. It’s medieval meets modern – the castle from a bygone era surrounded by buildings with indoor plumbing.  

So the King realises that those horseless carriages create a different sort of poop on the streets of the Distant City of a Distant Land. He appoints a knight (you!) to look into the problem.

Oh look, it’s you inside a tin can that is inside another tin can. Off to save the day.

There is a witch somewhere, and a requisite dragon Guardian whom you will eventually encounter two pages later.

“Ha HAH!” says our valiant knight (you). “Out of my way, foul beast.”

Realising that Monsieur Guardian technically won’t need a can opener, you make your escape. But your horseless carriage is quickly running out of juice and cannot outrun a dragon who knows you’re after his bling.

So our slightly dented and lightly cooked knight (you) does make his escape and end up seeking help from a reclusive engineering genius. 

There is so much steampunk potential in the image above. But alas, fantasy barely makes a dent in mainstream today, so steampunk’s gonna have to wait. Check back in another 10 years. But back to the story.

The guy with the goggles and stuff does have a solution for you – Fuel Efficiency! You return to Monsieur Guardian for a rematch. This is where things start getting fun. It’s game time!

The objective of the game is to outrun Monsieur Guardian. Basic left-right controls, pick up Power Boost for speed, pick up the Toyota logos for extra points, and lose points for hitting rocks.

As far as addictive flash games go, this one helped me discover my uncanny accuracy in hitting every goddamn rock on the road when I’m in Power Boost mode. Oh, the rightmost lane is perfectly free of rocks and logos. You just have to watch out for the dragon. My best score so far is 4100, in one of the rare occasions where I don’t hit as many rocks.

But no matter how crappy your score, you outrun Monsieur Guardian and collect the booty…

…which is Eco-Friendliness! You install it into your tin can steed carry it home to the Distant City of a Distant Land! There is clean air and rejoicing! The King gives you his youngest daughter’s hand in marriage and you both ride off into the sunset!

I guess the moral of the story is that you can’t go wrong with a powerful, fuel efficient, eco-friendly Toyota. But hey, the prize attached to this Toyota Quest For the Fuel-Efficient Engine is pretty tasty too.
