August in review
I’ve been rather busy for most of August, so here’s a rundown of the highlights.

Photographing a remote control car race was new for me, but that was my challenge at the Crown Square Remote Control Car Race 2008 on Sunday.
I know. Fail big time. On the bright side, they do make great teaser photos. Look out for my article in The Sunday Post this weekend, and yes, I did get photos with whole cars in them.
My thanks to racer Philip and one-man pit crew Andy for sharing their insights at the track, and also to Teo and Shukri at Hobbymart for answering all manner of (possibly dumb) questions, and to Tay for hooking me up and trying in vain to explain to me what “heat” means in race terms. I had a surprisingly good time learning about all this. :-D
A rolling stone runs over things in its way

Today was unexpectedly hectic. A lot of nice things that I’m not going to complain about, but disruptive where work is concerned. I didn’t get any work done.
Tomorrow is expected to be similarly busy, given that I have two events to do in the morning, and normally I don’t do news desk type events at all. I’m looking at my desktop calendar (I heart Rainlendar) and the next 5 days are packed from end to end with something or another. And I’m not even counting the articles that I need to finish by the 4th!
This is not the first time I’ve been caught in a whirlpool of work. When this happens, I either breakdown and snarls at everyone who disturbs me in the middle of work, or I’ll be taking it in stride, not openly hostile but with much less tolerance for people who waste my time with trivialities.
Quite frankly, I don’t know how some people manage to work 30 hours in a day and still find time to be nice. For me, being nice and being productive doesn’t exist in the same universe.
Before CNY, I don’t have time for anything not already scheduled a week ago. And my week is fully booked with work and one or two scheduled social activities. CNY is going to be spent with friends who are home for the holidays and a couple of side projects.
Part of me is enjoying the flurry of activities and making the most of it while it last. But you have to blame it on the nature of the universe: then it rains, it pours. If you stand out in the rain too long, you’ll catch a cold and die.
