The girl who wanted an adventure

I found this going through my 43 Things list under the to-do of “have an adventure”, posted Dec 17, 2005:

Have an adventure

Not the everyday adventure or a ‘join a reality tv show that will push your limits’ kind of adventure.

I want to have the kind of adventure that doesn’t happen in real life, where you overhear a secret plot to take over the world and have to do something, or get kidnapped because you were at the wrong place at the wrong time, or you get stranded on a strange island, or taken as a captive bride by a ruthless Middle Eastern oil tycoon.

There will be exciting car and/or horse-back chases. There will be acrobatic swinging on jungle vines. There will be several gunfire exchanges that mysteriously misses all the good guys (or lightly nicks them dramatic effect) and hits all the bad guys (unless they are needed for the grand showdown later). There will be brushes with gruesome and messy deaths.

Most importantly, there will be a handsome hero I won’t get along with until somewhere near the end of the adventure where we realise we are hot for each other all that time. There will be smooching and sexing and a nice sunset, preferably by the sea.

There will be outtake scenes when the credits roll. Outtakes are fun.

I’m nowhere near checking this to-do off my list. Maybe I’ll have better luck if I moved it under “star in an action-adventure movie”.

Got to it sooner than I thought it would.

I dropped by IMH after lunch and spoke to Angela. Basically, it’s gonna cost me almost RM165 to sign up the first time, after which there’ll be a RM60 fee per month. Classes are once a week for one hour each. The voice coach doesn’t have a schedule set for next year yet, but we get to pick days at this moment.

I suppose I’ll think about it. I can request for classes on my day off, but it’ll have to be squeezed in before my swimming session. I’m not sure if I’m willing to give up the extra free time yet.

Decisions, decisions.

…almost.

The point being RotK was not the extended version. Am mildly disappointed but at the same time, I couldn’t wait for the whole thing to finish. We watched it during Day 2 of the first annual Star Rainforest Movie Festival at the Sarawak Cultural Village. It started at 7pm and finished around 5:30am the next day. We spreaded a mat on the huge waterproof banner they provided and laid our heads on our backpacks.

It was like a picnic and a slumber party with hundreds of strangers. By the time it was over, there were perhaps about 50 of us left.

The weather was perfect. It was a clear starry night, cool enough to make my toes a bit cold but not uncomfortably so. I suppose I can thank the Arctic weather conditioning on the office. When it was nearing morning, dew set in and my jeans got damp from knee down from it.

We drove back to Kuching as the sun rose.
