Welcome to Kuching Poetry Writing Month (KPoWriMo) 2025!
I joined Global Poetry Writing Month in 2013 with some poet friends while I was still with Wordsmiths of Kuching (WoK) but later rebranded it to Kuching Poetry Writing Month (KPoWriMo). The challenge is to write one new poem every day in the month of April.
Most of poets I know (myself included) only write when there is an upcoming show. This is to challenge us to create a stockpile of drafts at least once a year, and hopefully inspire some of us to keep going.
Here are our house rules:
- Write one new poem a day.
- Post them in the designated forum. Include your tag.
- No re-posting someone’s work here outside the group without their permission.
- Daily prompts are provided, but optional.
- If you’re here to read, please encourage participants with your reacts and/or comments.
The community migrated away from a Facebook Group and is now hosted on a private Discord server.
From the beginning, access to our April project has never been public. We value a safe space to share our work. Some pieces come from a vulnerable place. Most of them still need work.
Secondly, most publications and journals out there will not accept anything that’s been published before. Posting it on social media with public access counts as previously published. This is a decision to be made individually and not forced upon us as a price of participation.
Thirdly, much of what is accessible publicly is being scraped to train AI, usually without knowledge or consent of its creator. While some writers out there truly don’t mind, this is again an individual decision and not forced or assumed by the organiser as a price of participation.
