Around mid-2023, I left to tend to a personal matter, but now that it’s blown over, I feel too disconnected to return. Most of my games have stalled, and my usual cohort of fellow players have left. I lack the stamina and interest to restart anything, so I’ll let my membership lapse come January 2024. I don’t know if this is goodbye. For now, perhaps.

Storium is a play-by-post collaborative writing platform which includes some game mechanics to support the direction of the story or the character’s decision-making process.

I love it and want to share it with more people, especially with writers who roleplay and roleplayers who write. Getting onboard can be a learning curve, and I want to make it easy for you to get a taste of what it’s all about.

Storium 101

  1. Sign up for an account.
  2. Go through the Player Tutorial.
  3. Fill in your Profile.
  4. Change your Email and Notification Preferences. Daily Digest is nice and tidy.
  5. Add yourself to the Player Finder. Include your Pitch as well.
  6. Check out the list of Beginner Games or Open Games for something to join.
  7. Introduce yourself on the forum, or join the Slack chat.

Storium Status Quo

The first thing you need to know about Storium is that it doesn’t move very quickly. If you get into a game and start within the first week, that’s pretty fast. But often, there is a long wait and sometimes there isn’t much communication from the narrator/host. Games take a while to set up and cast, so patience is necessary.

If you think you might forget, make sure your email preferences are configured to help you check back in.
